Have Allergies? Consider Tile.

It’s probably not something you’ve ever thought about, but the type of flooring you use can have a huge impact on your health.  If you or a loved one suffer from allergies or asthma, there are important factors to consider, beyond just the color and flooring type.

While natural stone is beautiful, not only is it less eco-friendly, but it can actually be hard on allergy sufferers.  Its rough edges and porous materials can trap allergens.  Additionally, they stain easily if the right chemicals aren’t used.  This makes it difficult to clean those pesky allergens.

Do I Have Allergies?

If you have allergies, you probably know it.  According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, allergies occur when “your immune system overreacts to something that is harmless to most people but triggers a reaction in anyone sensitive to it.  Symptoms can include runny, stuffy nose, sneezing, itching, watery eyes, coughing, fatigue, fever, rashes, headache and/or nausea and vomiting.  It can lead to sinus infections or asthma attacks and is overall very uncomfortable.

Tiles for Allergy and Asthma Sufferers

One effective alternative to ease allergy and asthma symptoms is to use tiles.  Not only are tiles typically more budget-friendly and eco-friendly, but they are also more hypoallergenic

If you or your loved one have allergies, consider using smooth tiles that are also sealed.  They will not only repel allergens, but they are also much lower maintenance and easier to clean.  The tiles are less porous so it is more difficult for particles to stick to it.

Natural stones are wildly popular because they are both unique and durable.  But are they worth the discomfort a person with allergies will have to endure?  Contact a Solid State Tile representative when considering health options for your next flooring project.
